Meet Mapuana

Greetings! My name is Mapuana Mergel and I live in Santa Clarita, California. I am a wife, mother, and caretaker to my senior citizen mother. I've worked in the healthcare industry for the past 20 years, including as a clinical massage therapist at Soledad Canyon Chiropractic Office.

MASSAGE THERAPY

My massage therapy clientele ranges from 10 - 85 year olds, and I work with multiple modalities, including Deep Tissue Massage, Swedish Massage, Trigger Points, Craniosacral Therapy, Touch Therapy, and best of all, PREGNANCY massage!  Therapeutic massage during your pregnancy can reduce stress on the weight bearing joints, encourage your blood and lymph circulation, reduce nervous tension and promote overall wellness.
Plus, it feels really good...!

DOULA SERVICES

I am also a CAPPA certified labor doula. I started out in this industry 10 years ago as a postpartum doula. After 3 years of supporting babies overnight I decided to move into the labor and delivery side of birth work. As a birth doula, I get to help women creatively navigate through the doubt and fear that our society teaches us about birth. I bring a sense of calm and security to every birth I attend supported by my energy, essential oils and of course massage skills! I wish I had worked with a birth doula when I gave birth to our 2 boys!

Reflections on my own births...

I was always shy of speaking up about my 2 wonderful labors because they were not "normal"...

They were truly awesome empowering experiences that I am now proud to share. Both were fast (under 6 hours) but hard, and I did not have a doula or essential oils at the time. Just because they were fast does not mean that there was no pain, I remember feeling confused and scared when labor started, and my husband told me that he believed in me and that I needed to relax and surrender to the natural forces that were taking place in my body. I am proud to say that I had 2 all natural vaginal births with no interventions at a hospital.

Reflecting back on my own experiences makes me believe even more that women need this type of support during labor. They need to be told that pain is not the enemy, exhaustion is the enemy. They need to be told to surrender to the process and breathe energy in and tension out. They need to be reminded of their POWERS which begins with their thoughts. I believe in the power of positive thinking and have studied research on the physiological effects on the body.
